Hi Gary,
I just wanted to thank you guys for the great advice (and product) you provided for my Lincoln City sign project. The 4'x10' signs on our gallery building came down and went back up within a little more than 3 hours on Monday morning (even beat the wind storm by several hours). I am breathing again.
As we were all amateurs, the only struggle we had was with the white vinyl background (we layered a 24" and a 30" width overlapped across each sign). We did a lot better on the second sign, but both have the tiny creases and bubbles - flattened as much as possible - but not perfect. When laying down the second sign's vinyl, I thought about the velcro on the squeegee idea you use for the lettering, and remembered I had brought a paint spreader that has a sort of velcro-like flat surface. That worked much better than rollers for laying down the vinyl sheeting. But the signs are viewed at a distance anyway, and the lettering is large enough to completely distract from the flaws in the vinyl. And it's excellent for visibility from either direction on Hwy 101.
Just FYI, we found that by using the back of the sign's plastic, we didn't have to remove the original lettering that was on the front. The plastic is translucent, and the white vinyl background pretty much took care of blocking any remaining shadow effect.
And you should know that the lettering itself went down smoothly - your instructions were great. That's an excellent system.
From what I've heard, every co-op member who's seen the signs is pleased.
